FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Haralson Telephone Fraud - BEWARE !!!Caller posing as a representative of Social Security AdministrationJanuary 16, 2008 -- Today I received a call from a concerned citizen of Haralson County. The citizen stated that he received a call from a 800-224-8906 number, the calling person told him that they were with the Social Security Office and wanted to verify information about his direct deposit account. The caller had a foreign accent and was very persuasive on the phone. The caller asked for the Bank account number and other private information, the caller even had certain information about the citizen, like the bank name, his address, and other information that seemed private to the citizen. The citizen was very smart in not giving out any information about themselves and about his bank account - Good for you! The way the citizen explained the caller it seems that it maybe our friendly Nigerian friends again up to their old tricks. I urge you not to give out any vital information to anyone, if this had been the Social Security Office they will have all this information about you and will not confirm it. if they do they will send you a letter to have you come to there office to do this in private. I guess the main thing is be aware of who you are talking to, these are SCAMS and these criminals will stop at nothing to get your information.
